Q: What are your organization's goals, and how do you measure success?
A: Our goal is to connect children with other children from similar backgrounds and create a community and environment where they feel comfortable playing and learning a sport they love, can develop positive habits and characteristics for the future, and feel safe from violence and judgment. We measure success by tracking the number of children who attend our N THE STREETS Basketball Camp Series and express interest in The Memphis Ghost Cats Basketball Club. Those numbers directly represent the number of children we have positively impacted. Every number accounts for one child who is not on the streets for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 6 weeks out of the summer. It represents a child who has been given a purpose, a team, and even a family. The more children we impact, the more successful we are.
Q: What makes your organization unique?
A: Cats That Care is unique because we are not only here to protect children by keeping them off the streets and filling their idle time, but we are also developing elite-level athletes, fostering safe environments to learn the game of basketball, and offering opportunities to children they otherwise could not afford. We are creating core memories for children using the game of basketball as the vehicle.
